Advanced Open Water

As a diver you are weightless and can move in all directions. You approach the freedom of a bird as you move in three dimensions in a fluid environment.

Advancing, Exploring, Discovering

The PADI Advanced open water course will lead you to discover your own personal scuba diving adventures. This course is not designed to be taken just by experienced divers– it’s designed to advance your diving, so you can start it right after earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification. The Advanced course is built up of a series of 5 adventure dives. These adventure dives come from all the various specialty courses that PADI has to offer. 2 of the 5 dives are mandatory and are the first dives of the deep and navigation specialties. After the first 2 dives, you get to choose 3 PADI Specialties which you would like to try out! These could be night, wreck, peak performance buoyancy, underwater photography, underwater naturalist…. the list goes on!

Finish what you started! Each Adventure Dive that you do in your advanced course may credit toward the first dive of the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver Course.

What will you learn?

Here at Sea to Sky Scuba in the Pacific Northwest we have a few adventure dives to recommend for you to get the most out of your advanced course while diving in our local waters of Howe Sound. Since we primarily dive from shore on one of the most bio-diverse coastlines in the world and with few daylight hours in the winter time, we recommend that you make up your additional advanced dives with your night, underwater naturalist, and peak performance buoyancy. During your night dive, you will experience diving during hours of limited daylight and become proficient at communicating using your underwater light. The underwater naturalist dive lets you discover the vast variety of wildlife that inhabits our coastal waters, while the peak performance buoyancy dive teaches you how to maintain good buoyancy and trim in order to avoid hitting or damaging the wonderful wildlife that you see.

During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of scuba diving to depths between 60 and 100ft. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
